Columns: Federal = Federally regulated workplaces; BC = British Columbia; AB = Alberta; SK = Saskatchewan; MB = Manitoba; ON = Ontario; NS = Nova Scotia; NL = Newfoundland and Labrador; NT = Northwest Territories.

Canada does not have a single statutory holiday list that applies to every workplace. Federal law covers federally regulated workplaces, while each province and territory has its own employment standards legislation. This comparison brings the verified holiday lists for 2027 together, showing which jurisdiction names each holiday and the date where the official source states it. Differences matter: a familiar day off may have statutory status in one place but not another. Entries link to the relevant government source, and a holiday remains undated when that source provides its name without a date for the year.

Each jurisdiction in detail

No verified statutory list yet for Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Yukon. Dates will be added after the relevant legislation or official holiday page has been checked. This information was last checked against the official sources on November 2, 2026.

Nunavut

Nunavut’s Labour Standards Act defines general holidays as follows:

“"general holiday" means New Year's Day, Good Friday, Canada Day, Nunavut Day, the first Monday in August, Labour Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, and the day fixed by the Governor General for observance of the birthday of the reigning sovereign, and includes any day substituted for any such holiday pursuant to section 23 or 25”

Common questions

Which statutory holiday list applies to a workplace?

The applicable list depends on whether the workplace falls under federal, provincial or territorial rules. Federally regulated workplaces include banks, airlines and telecommunications businesses. The jurisdiction notes help distinguish these lists; the relevant official guidance explains coverage.

Where can I compare statutory holiday dates for 2027?

For 2027, this page compares 9 jurisdictions with verified holiday lists: Federally regulated workplaces, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Northwest Territories. Use the comparison table on this page to read the published 2027 dates across jurisdictions. If no date is shown, check the linked official source for updates.

Are Boxing Day and the August civic holiday statutory across Canada?

No. Their status varies by jurisdiction, as does the status of Easter Monday and Remembrance Day. A familiar holiday name or a workplace closure does not establish that the day is statutory under the applicable law.
