Common questions
How are Ontario’s Thanksgiving dates established?
The confirmed dates for Thanksgiving Day are listed here: Monday, October 12, 2026; Monday, October 11, 2027; Monday, October 9, 2028. Ontario’s retail business holidays page gives the Thanksgiving rule as the second Monday in October, and the Ministry of Education publishes dates by school year. In the yearly tables, the basis column identifies the official source supporting each Thanksgiving entry.
Is the Civic Holiday included alongside Family Day and Boxing Day?
No. The confirmed dates for Family Day are listed here: Monday, February 16, 2026; Monday, February 15, 2027; Monday, February 21, 2028. Family Day and Boxing Day belong to Ontario’s public holiday list, but the Civic Holiday does not. Easter Sunday, Easter Monday and Remembrance Day are also outside that list. An employer may give time off on those excluded days, although Ontario’s Employment Standards Act does not require it.
Where should parents check Ontario’s March break schedule?
Ontario’s separate school-calendar page covers March break. The yearly tables here describe employment holidays and do not establish a school’s full closure schedule. For school planning, use the school page’s key-dates table together with the relevant board calendar.
