For federally regulated workplaces, the Canada Labour Code uses the term “general holiday”. This page brings together the named holidays for 2026, 2027 and 2028, with the Holidays Act and federal Interpretation Act also informing the entries. The federal scope includes banks, airlines, interprovincial transport, telecommunications and the federal public service; it does not cover most provincially regulated employers. Boxing Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation belong to this list, while Easter Monday and the August civic holiday do not. Thanksgiving Day remains visible by name where the legislation read does not supply its date.
Legal basis: Canada Labour Code, Part III, section 166 (general holidays) and Division V; Holidays Act; Interpretation Act, section 35 (Canada Labour Code, R.S.C. 1985, c. L-2, Part III s.166).

Common questions
Does this federal list apply to every Canadian workplace?
No. This list covers federally regulated workplaces, including banks, airlines, telecommunications and interprovincial transport. Most provincially regulated employers fall outside that scope. For an individual employment situation, the official source or the employer’s agreement settles which holiday arrangements apply. For 2027, the verified list includes 9 statutory holidays with confirmed dates, from Friday, January 1, 2027 to Sunday, December 26, 2027.
Why does the Thanksgiving Day entry have no date?
No confirmed date for Thanksgiving Day appears in the official sources consulted for this page, last checked on October 25, 2026. Thanksgiving Day is a general holiday under the Code, but its date is fixed by proclamation rather than a date rule in the Acts read for this page. Its row in the table above therefore retains the holiday’s name without assigning a date.
How does the Code handle certain holidays on a non-working weekend?
In 2027, 2 holidays on this list fall on a Saturday or Sunday: Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25, 2027; Boxing Day, Sunday, December 26, 2027. For New Year’s Day, Canada Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, employees who normally have that Saturday or Sunday off are entitled to a paid holiday on the working day immediately before or after. Consult the table’s basis column alongside the official source for individual arrangements.
